Modern Warfare 4 DMZ: early access date, who gets in and what is confirmed

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launched October 23, 2026, and its DMZ extraction mode opened in early access on October 20 for anyone who pre-ordered any digital edition, according to Activision's support page, Dexerto and Insider Gaming. Xbox Wire names the DMZ map Hajin. This page lists what is confirmed, what is not, and the one source that contradicts the dates.

What is confirmed

Facts restate Activision's support page, Dexerto, Insider Gaming and Xbox Wire. DMZ early access began October 20 and the game launched October 23, 2026. Tamedex has not played it, so there are no tested tips, loadouts or route guides here. We could not open the official Call of Duty blog, and one outlet gave a different early access date, noted below.

  • What DMZ is

    Insider Gaming describes an extraction shooter mode where players explore, engage AI forces and rival Operators, loot valuable items, craft gear and complete objectives, then extract with rewards, in squads or solo. It is returning after first appearing in 2022. Activision's page describes players operating as an off-the-books asset behind enemy lines.

  • Early access requirement

    You must digitally pre-order (or pre-purchase) any Modern Warfare 4 edition on any platform. Both Dexerto and Insider Gaming report it does not matter which version or platform.

  • Editions

    Activision lists a Digital Standard Edition and a premium digital-only Vault Edition. Eligible players who owned qualifying earlier Call of Duty games get a 10% discount on the Vault Edition through platform storefronts. We did not find prices. Xbox Wire says the Vault Edition includes a DMZ Deployment Bonus, and that the game is not available on Xbox One.

  • Pre-order bonuses

    Activision lists early campaign access (October 16), early DMZ access (October 20), the Hunter Killer Operator skin for Black Ops 7 and Warzone, the Gilded Pearl Weapon Camo Pack and the Inner Circuit M4 Weapon Blueprint. Dexerto spells the last one Inner Circle.

  • What early access lets you do

    Dexerto says early access lets players progress through missions, earn currency, unlock Operator Traits and upgrade their Forward Operating Base before multiplayer opens.

  • Map and progression

    Xbox Wire's DMZ starter guide (October 20) names the map Hajin. You start with two Active Duty Operator slots and unlock another through DMZ Player Levels. Operators earn Trait Points from successful exfils, and each Operator can earn up to 18 of the 66 Traits. Prestige needs 18 Trait Points, enough DMZ Cash and rare gear, and is separate from the Level 1 to 55 progression.

  • Launch fixes

    Insider Gaming's launch patch notes lists DMZ fixes applied on October 20 (for example a crash when breaching a door in Breaking New Ground and first-match reports showing 0 XP) and on October 21 (for example a Dog Tag Case error and AI running over players in NK Wilderness).

  • What is not confirmed

    We found no Steam review score, no official statement on whether DMZ is free-to-play, and no official exact early access start time. We did not test the map or progression ourselves.

  • A conflicting date

    One outlet (Analytics Insight) headlines a DMZ early access start of October 2. The three sources above all say October 20, so we treat October 2 as wrong.
